Comparative Genomics/Transcriptomics De Morais, Erica Barroso [1], Schoenenberger, Juerg [2], Conti, Elena [1], Antonelli, Alexandre [3], Szoevenyi, Peter [1]. New transcriptomic resources and orthologous nuclear markers for the species-rich flowering plant family Acanthaceae. Information on orthologous groups of genes, their sequence variability, and annotation are required for project design in phylogenetic reconstruction. These resources are unavailable for some major evolutionary lineages within the flowering plant family Acanthaceae (>4,000 species). We compared transcriptome assemblies spanning the extant diversity of Acanthaceae in order to provide a set of orthologous low-copy nuclear genes and assess their utility for reconstructing phylogenetic relationships within this group of plants. We present new transcriptome assemblies for eight species representing all major clades of Acanthaceae. The assemblies of five of these species are entirely based on new sequence data. Of these five species, three are from subfamilies for which no genomic resources were available at all (Nelsonioideae and Thunbergioideae). Finally, we provide sequence information, annotation, and statistics for potential phylogenetic reconstruction of 1619 putative orthologous low-copy nuclear markers. We make available to the community these new resources (i.e., sequence information, variability and annotation of low-copy nuclear genes) that will help phylogenetic reconstruction within Acanthaceae.
