The Nagoya Protocol Learning Portal.

We are losing biodiversity at an unprecedented rate. Navigating national and international policy regulating access to biodiversity and associated knowledge can help broaden participation in science and accellerate a critically-needed understanding of our world.
The Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits is a framework for research and collections management. Students to senior faculty, and basic science educators to resource stewards, all could benefit if acclimating to the new policy were easier and tailored to their needs.
A cross-society group has founded the Nagoya Protocol Learning Portal (www.learnnagoya.com) that is meant to be a community resource to foster foundational understanding, support, and access to trusted information and resources that will enable better science along with compliance with the Nagoya Protocol and International Treaty.
The Nagoya Protocol Learning Portal is an engaging, dynamic, and interactive web platform with FAQ, examples of benefit sharing, up-to-date country and regional policies, and interactive examples of use cases. Use cases detail obtaining prior informed consent, developing mutually agreed terms on access and benefits, and the real experiences to meet those agreements. The portal resources cover living and preserved/dead organisms, in situ and ex situ collections, historic collections, intellectual property, and digital sequence data.
This poster provides an overview of the cross-society effort to encourage Nagoya Protocol compliance in a time when policies are still in development. It also highlights ways to take action in relevant science policy.
