Ecology Koptur, Suzanne [1], Gonsiska, Philip A. [2]. What’s eating Catopsis berteroniana on Andros, Bahamas? While conducting field work on populations of a distinctive epiphytic bromeliad, we witnessed a substantial amount of herbivore damage on plants in some populations on Andros, Bahamas. We eventually discovered two caterpillars on damaged plants, and reared a moth previously known only from Cuba. Caterpillars of the moth Dahana cubana (Arctiidae: Ctenuchinae) caused the damage to Catopsis berteroniana plants. Our data showed that both location (site) and plant size, but not degree of sun exposure, influence the amount of herbivore damage that plants sustained. Log in to add this item to your schedule
