Biogeography Liu, Sukuan [1], Smith, Stacey [2]. Phylogeny and Historical Biogeography of South American Marsh Pitcher Plants, Heliamphora (Sarraceniaceae) . The South American marsh pitcher plant genus Heliamphora is a group of carnivorous plants endemic to the Guiana Highlands of South America. Most of the species are distributed in small and isolated flat top mountains, or tepuis, surrounded by vertical cliffs and lowland vegetation. It has been suggested that recent geological processes, such as weathering and erosion, have fragmented the once continuous habitat of Heliamphora, resulting in allopatric speciation. This study aims to resolve the evolutionary history of the genus and examine the concordance between phylogenetic relationships and geographic distribution.
