Title: A Tropical Greenhouse ex situ Conservation Plan and its Practical Application at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium.

The habitats of thousands of plants species are lost or decrease in size every year. The need for aggressive conservation efforts must increase exponentially to slow the loss of these fragile plant species. I am investigating literature covering ex situ conservation and avenues for application. My focus is primarily on the practical application of these methods of ex situ conservation and creation of an ex situ conservation plan for IUCN Red Listed species Hatiora cylindrica. This truly rare species is horticulturally curated at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium (LLPA), Draper Utah. In collaboration with LLPA I will add to their current and future conservation strategic plan. The ultimate goal of this investigation is to promote the active use of ex situ conservation in stopping the dwindling biodiversity of rare plant species.
