Ethnobotany . Biofunctional Potential of Schleichera oleosa (Lour.) Oken. Many of the plant species play a crucial role in nature for nutrition, food and ecological security but still they are neglected and underutilized. Schleichera oleosa (Lour.) Oken is one of the underutilized plant of the North Eastern U.P., commonly known as Kusum, belongs to family Sapindaceae. The biofunctional parts of the plant possess primary metabolites as well as secondary bioactive molecules with high nutritional value. These bioactive molecules indirectly used in wide range of ailments like skin diseases, acne, burns, rheumatism etc. The various parts of plant such as root, leaf, bark, seed, flower and fruit were used for medicinal preparations in traditional system by local people. The phytochemical analysis of various parts confirmed the presence of different phytochemicals, primary metabolites viz. carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins and minerals and secondary metabolites as  tannins, phenolic compound, steroids, glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids and coumarins. The quantitative nutritional composition analysis of the plant is under process. Preliminary investigation shows its biofunctional potential. Log in to add this item to your schedule
