Education and Outreach Nepal, Madhav [1], Bott-Knutson, Rebecca [2], Mathew, Febina [3], Janaswamy, Srinivas [4], White, P. Troy [5]. Mentoring Native American Students for Future Science and Agriculture Workforce through FAST-REEU. The National Institute of Food and Agriculture funded FAST REEU Fellowship program provides both Native American and economically challenged students with research and educational experiences for two summers. During the first summer, students receive research experiences and soft-skill trainings at South Dakota State University to develop a strategy for increasing competitiveness for graduate school or careers in FANH industries or teaching agriculture or science in K-12 classrooms. Over the subsequent second summer, they will participate in a career-oriented internship at a place of their choices. We have successfully compeleted the first year of mentoring and students have been recruited by industries for the second summer internship. We will share our strategies of undergraduate mentoring, discuss scope and challenges as well as present encouraging accomplishments to date, at this presentation.
