Enhancing Scientist Diversity in Plant Biology Luncheon - Tom Antonio Antonio, Tom [1]. What I learned about teaching Botany to Native American students. Respect has been my primary concern and main objective in teaching Native American students. Respect for the individual student, their culture, their family, and their community. I try to involve them as much as possible into every class, by having them tell the class and me their plant stories. Native students are innately interested in plants and most have a profound respect for plants. I make every effort to bridge their traditional knowledge (TK) of plants with Western science. We both end up learning. My biggest challenge is to not place one type of knowledge above the other. Log in to add this item to your schedule
