Bryology and Lichenology Allen, Jessica [1]. Long-readsequencing and lichen genomes. Fungi tend to have small genomes for complex eukaryotic organisms. Illumina sequencinghasbeen used in the past toassemble these genomes, usually into hundreds or thousands of contigs. Now,with long-read sequencing, it is possible to assemble genomes into very few contigs, and potentially towhole chromosomes. Furthermore, metagenomicbinning with complex whole-thallus lichen samplesbecomes more accurate with larger reads. Finally, Oxford Nanopore sequencingnow makes thesetechniques economically viable even without a large funding source. Log in to add this item to your schedule
